DESCRIPTION:
Body and Suspension:
Monocoque unibody. Front suspension fully independent with upper and lower wishbones, anti-roll bar, telescopic shock absorbers, and longitudinal torsion bars. Rear suspension live axle with half elliptic leaf springs and lever type hydraulic shock absorbers.
Brakes:
Servo assisted Girling 11″ discs at the front; 9½” drums at the rear.
Wheels and Tires: 15″ x 5″ wheels. Either pressed steel with five stud attachment or optionally center lock wire wheels. Original factory tires Dunlop SP41 165R-15 revised in 1969 to 165HR-15.
Engine:
Inline six cylinder gasoline/petrol seven main bearing engine of 2,912 cc, compression ratio 9.0:1. Naturally aspirated with twin 1¾” SU HS6 carburetors, power 145 bhp @ 5,250 rpm, torque 170lb/ft @ 3,400 rpm.
Transmission:
9″ Borg & Beck single dry plate diaphragm spring clutch. Four speed fully synchromesh manual gearbox with optional Laycock de Normanville electric overdrive on third and fourth gears. Salisbury rear axle.
Dimensions:
Length 153.0″/3,886 mm, width 60″/1,524 mm, wheelbase 91″/2,312 mm, front track 50″, rear track 49¼”, weight 2,445 lb.
Not only were the courthouse’s metal cornices in desperate need of restoration and replacement, the original wood framing behind the cornices also experienced serious damage and deterioration. This required historic carpentry restoration work to create a structurally sound wood frame where the cornices could be secured. In addition, the cornices themselves required detailed metal restoration work to refresh their visual appeal and structural integrity.
The courthouse bell tower needed restoration on the spalling stonework, along with the copper dome and tiles. The barrel tiles needed to be completely replaced, requiring custom copper fabrication that perfectly replicated the visual aesthetic and historical accuracy of the original bell tower tiles. Our historic masonry experts were able to restore or replace spalling brick and stonework to prevent any additional moisture intrusion.
The existing copper gutters and pans demonstrated significant wear and deterioration after years of exposure to sunlight, wind, rain, snow, humidity, and extreme cold. The copper gutters and pans exhibited large amounts of rust, requiring an in-depth restoration that included the fabrication of custom copper components to restore the look and functionality of the gutter system. Copper gutters are a key component in ensuring proper water drainage for your historic property.
The clay tile roof was the initial scope of work for the courthouse, requiring a complete pick-up of the original clay tiles and the installation of new tiles that mirrored the originals. This removal and installation process required a large amount of scaffolding, as well as a high level of safety and care as normal courthouse hours needed to be maintained during the restoration. Plus, the delicate nature of clay roof tiles called for a high level of craftsmanship for a successful installation.
